THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 30, 2019) - The Queens College swimming and diving team sent its seniors off in style on Wednesday night (Jan. 30) as the Knights overwhelmed SUNY Maritime in a dual meet by a score of 136-74.
Queens (4-3) improved its record in dual meets by triumphing in every single event against the Privateers. The 200-yard medley relay team of
Kelly Coronado,
Anna Lee,
Iris Leung and
Lily Wilk swam a dominating relay in a time of 2:10.47 to defeat Maritime's 'A' squad by seventeen seconds.
Gabriela Almeida won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:05.97 with teammate
Amanda Giordano finishing in second (13:03.43).
Megan Dawes earned a first-place victory in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.05) as
Taylor Persaud swam a third-place time of 2:24.09. In the 50-free,
Jennifer Arana-Perez cruised to a victory in 26.76 seconds with Wilk taking third (28.72s).
Lee claimed a victory in the 200-yard individual medley (2:30.72) with Arana-Perez notching first-prize in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:07.54. Almeida posted a scintillating time of 58.34s in the 100-free to win with Giordano posting a third-place time of 1:04.64. Wilk (1:13.45), Coronado (1:17.86) and Leung (1:19.15) went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke; Dawes (5:41.22) and
Danielle Clarke (6:35.82) went 1-2 in the 500-free and Lee's first-place time of 1:18.78 in the 100-yard breaststroke bested second-place teammate Giordano's time of 1:24.11. Capping the evening, the 200-free relay squad of Persaud, Almeida, Dawes and
Chelsy Espinosa swam a triumphant time of 1:55.39.
Queens will return to the pool on Feb. 22 for Day One of the Metropolitan Conference Championships.
