Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team dropped both ends of an East Coast Conference double header to Molloy Saturday evening. The Lions came out on top 8-1 in game one, before taking the nightcap 7-4.
Sophomore ToniMarie Valeriano (Bellmore, N.Y.) collected four hits over the double header, and scored three runs. Junior Kristen Boody (Centereach, N.Y.) contributed three hits and drove in three runs.
In the opener, the Lions jumped out a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Ashley Fedor contributed an RBI double, and came around on a home run by Brianna Dalton. Molloy jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a two-run single by Sarah Rambo, before adding two more unearned runs in the fourth.
The Knights cracked the scoreboard on Valeriano's home run to right field. A single in the sixth inning by Erin Clinton scored Rambo with the game's final run.
Valeriano took the loss, surrendering seven runs, five earned in the game, while striking out seven. Chelsea Hawks went the distance for Molloy, allowing five hits and one run while striking out nine.
In game two, the Knights were led offensively by Boody, who contributed three hits and drove in three runs. Junior Kayla Morrissey (Glen Cove, N.Y.) connected on a home run for QC in the game.
Queens found itself in an early deficit once again in the game, as the Lions pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first. Tracey Balinskas hit a solo home run and Alexandra Russo contributed an RBI double.
Morrissey's home run in the top of the second inning cut the deficit in half. Molloy pushed across two runs in the fourth inning to give the home team a 4-1 lead.
A two-run double by Boody plated Valeriano and sophomore Alyssa Neal (Paramus, N.J.) with the Knights' second and third runs, and cut the lead to one. The Lions quickly countered with a two-run single by Balinskas, and extended their lead to 7-3 in the sixth inning.
QC scored its final run of the game in top of the seventh on an RBI single by Boody. Jenna Turato got the win for Molloy in relief, allowing three runs and six hits in 4.0 innings. Freshman Lauren Pascual (Woodland Hills, Calif.) took the loss, surrendering six runs and six hits while striking out four.
