Boody, Morrissey Go Deep Against Molloy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team dropped both ends of an East Coast Conference double header to Molloy Saturday afternoon.  The Knights were outscored 3-1 in game one, before falling 6-2 in game two.

Junior Kristen Boody (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior Kayla Morrissey (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each connected on solo home runs in the double header, while freshman Deanna Burbridge (Mahwah, N.J.) had two hits.

In the opener, Molloy got on the board in the first inning with an unearned run off Queens starter ToniMarie Valeriano (Bellmore, N.Y.).  The Lions then pushed across two more runs in the fourth.

Morrissey connected on a leadoff homer in the fifth inning to trim the deficit to two.  Valeriano (2-3) suffered the loss for Queens, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four.  Chelsea Hawks (5-5) picked up the win, allowing four hits and one run while striking out 10.

In game two, the Knights once again trailed before ever stepping to the plate, as Molloy scored a run in the top of the first.  The Lions extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth, before Boody hit a home run to left center.

A bases loaded walk extended the deficit back to two runs, 3-1, before the Lions scored three more runs in the sixth inning.  Freshman Lauren Pascual (Woodland Hills, Calif.) then plated pinch runner Nicole Michaels (East Northport, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

The Knights are back in action Thursday afternoon, when they welcome Mercy for an ECC double header beginning at 2:30 pm.
