Softball Opens Season At Citrus Classic

ORLANDO, FL - The Queens College softball team began its 2016 campaign Friday with a pair of setbacks at the Cirtus Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports.  In game one, the Knights fell to Rollins 3-1 before falling to Dominican 4-2 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Knights collected six hits in the contest, as a sextet of players tallied one knock apiece.  The Tars scored runs in innings three through five, before Queens cracked the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning.  Jessica Hogan recorded the team's lone RBI of the day, driving in Alyssa Neal with a sacrifice fly.

Jule Kranz picked up three hits in the game for Rollins, and drove in one run apiece along with Tiffany Osmanski and Grace Street.

In the circle, sophomore ToniMarie Valeriano surrendered eight hits and three earned runs over six innings.

The Knights take on Illinois-Springfield Saturday, beginning at 1:15 pm.
