Box Score Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team continued to show its dominance over LIU Post as the team defeated the Pioneers, 5-1, in game three of the East Coast Conference Championship on Friday from the softball field in Flushing. The Knights are now 4-1 in matchups with LIU Post this season.
Monqiue Roeberge left the outcome in little doubt as she slugged a pair of homeruns in the game, including a two-run shot to right after Cat Pastor led the game off with a walk. The Pioneers got a run back in the bottom of the second and trailed 2-1 until the fourth.
QC scored three times in the fourth to put the game away for good. Roberge led off the frame with a solo blast that went to the right of the bleachers in right field. Samantha Mattsson reached on an error and moved to second on a stolen base. She was sacrificed to third and scored on a Nicole Pirretti base hit. Pastor capped the scoring with an RBI single. The Knights went on to a 5-1 win.
Isabelle Yaroch tossed five strong innings to earn the win and raise her record to 10-2. She allowed just an unearned run and fanned five.
The Queens College softball team is one win away from the ECC Championship. They face the winner of the Molloy-LIU Post game that was suspended due to darkness on Friday. The Knights need just one victory to claim the title.
