Taylor Martello Scores a Game-High Four Goals in 9-7 Setback to Georgian Court

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College lacrosse team fell to Georgian Court, 9-7, in a lacrosse game played in Flushing on Monday.  The start of the game was delayed 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the Lions.  Taylor Martello scored a game-high four goals in the contest.

 

Things looked promising for Queens early on as the Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  Martello opened the scoring with a free position goal barely a minute into action.  Shortly after that, Janet Campo scored to make it 2-0 for QC.

 

Georgian Court scored the next two and evened the score at 2-all.  From there, the two sides exchanged blows for the remainder of the half.  Martello made a great move to get by the defender and score to put Queens up, 3-2.  The Lions promptly tied the game, but Campo found Martello with 16 minutes left to put the Knights up 4-3.  Georgian Court tied the score with 0:35 remaining in the half.

 

The second half opened with a free position goal from Campo just over :30 into action.  The Lions scored the next two goals to take a 6-5 lead.  Another Martello marker evened the game at 6-6 with 14:26 left.

 

Georgian Court scored the next two to take an 8-6 lead with four minutes left.  Samantha Wolf scored a free position goal for the Knights to pull them within 8-7 with jus tover two mnutes left.

 

The Lions won the ensuing draw, ran the clock down, and scored an insureance goal to seal the 9-7 win.

 

The Queens College lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, April 11, when they face Roberts Wesleyan on the road.  The opening draw is slated for 3:00 PM.
