QC Softball Team Clinches Regular-Season Title with Doubleheader Sweep of LIU Post

Brookville, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team took the season series from LIU Post with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday in Brookville, New York.  With the wins, the team clinched the regular-season title and top seed in the upcoming East Coast Conference championship.

 

Queens won the first game 2-0.  Isabelle Yaroch tossed a complete-game shutout and struck out four.  She improved to 8-2 with the win.  QC scored both their runs in the second.  Monique Roberge led off with a walk.  Two batters later, Kylie Spillett blasted a two-run homer.

 

The Knights fell behind 1-0 in game two, but Roberge rebounded to pick up her 14th win of the season.  The Pioneers got to her for a run in the first, but Queens rallied late, scoring three times in the sixth and once in the seventh.

 

Roberge led off the sixth and was walked.  Samantha Mattsson was hit by a pitch and Spillett singled to load the bases.  Kayla Morrissey singled home Roberge and the game was tied 1-1.   Two batters later, Nicole Pirretti lashed a base hit that plated two more.

 

In the seventh, Roberge doubled and scored on a base hit to right by Mattsson.  Queens went on to win 4-1.

 

The team has earned the regular-season title in the ECC.  They finished the regular-season with a 32-14 overall record and a 24-4 conference ledger.
