Taylor Martello Scores a Season-High Five Goals in Overtime Loss to Nyack

Nyack, N.Y. - Despite a season-best five goals from Taylor Martello, the Queens College lacrosse team fell in overtime to Nyack, 19-16.  Alyssa McCormick also contributed with four goals and a pair of assists.

 

The Warriors got on the board first, scoring a goal just over a minute into action.  Martello scored the next two goals to put Queens ahead, 2-1.  The second goal came off an assist from Samantha Wolf. 

 

After two more Nyack goals put them up 3-2, QC got the equalizer when Courtney Canavan found Martello for her third marker of the game.  Martello had a hat trick just four-and-a-half minutes into action.  The Warriors went back on top less than two minutes later and led 4-3 when the Knights got hot.

 

Queens scored the next seven goals of the half and took a 10-4 lead.  McCormick scored four of those, all unassisted.  Janet Campo scored a marker with no help as well.  The final two goals came from Mary Pat Gibble, who was assisted by Martello and McCormick.

 

Nyack scored the next six goals to tie the score at 10-10, but McCormick found Gibble for a score with 0:04 remaining and the Knights led at the half, 11-10.

 

Queens opened the second half with three unanswered goals, all unassisted, from Wolf, Martello and Campo.  The Warriors rattled off five straight and led, 15-14 with 12:35 left.  Queens got the equalizer from Campo, but Nyack scored again.  Finally, it was Martello rounding out the QC scoring and sending the game into overtime.

 

The Warriors scored three times in O.T. and won, 19-16.  The Queens College lacrosse team closes out the 2015 season at LIU Post on Sunday, April 26, at noon.
