Queens College Softball Earns Doubleheader Split with Dominican

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team split a doubleheader with Dominican on Thursday, winning the opener, 3-2 and falling in the second game, 5-2.  The team is now 11-9 overall.

Dominican jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one by scoring twice in the third inning.  However, the lead was short-lived as the Knights evened the score in the bottom of the fourth.

Samantha Mattsson led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch.  She moved to third on another wild pitch.  Monique Roberge walked and moved up a base on a third wild pitch that scored Mattsson.  Kayla Morrissey then ripped an RBI double to center that scored Roberge and tied the game at 2-2.

The Knights pushed the deciding run across in the bottom of the fifth.  With two outs, Alicia Gonzalez reached on an infield single.  She got to second to second on a wild pitch and scored on an error.  Queens won 3-2.  Roberge earned the complete game victory, striking out 12 and allowing two runs on three hits.

Game two went to the Chargers, 5-2.  Morgan Starley pitched a complete game for Queens and Mattsson connected on a two-run-homerun, her first of the season.

The team hosts Molloy in a doubleheader on Friday at 2:30 PM.
