Martello Scores Season-Best Five Goals in 12-7 Win Over Caldwell

Flushing, N.Y. - Queens College lacrosse senior, Taylor Martello tied a season-best with five goals in the Knights' 12-7 win over Caldwell from the lacrosse field in Flushing on Thursday.  Alyssa McCormick chipped in with four goals and Janet Campo added four assists.

 

Queens used the first ten minutes of action to build a 3-0 lead.  Less than a minute into aciton, Samantha Wolf made a pass for Martello that led to a goal.  Three minutes later, QC scored again when Carly Chierico passed to Campo for a goal.  The third goal came on a McCormick unassisted marker.

 

The Cougars scored to break up the QC scoring spree and draw within 3-1.  Queens responded wiht four unanswered markers.  Campo had the ball at the top of defensive zone and flipped the ball forward to Martello who beat the keeper to make it 4-1.  Twenty seconds later, those same two hooked up again as Martello's third goal made the score 5-1.  Martello found the back of the net again at the 13:23 mark off a feed from Martello that helped her curl in front of the goal and score.  With just under seven minutes left, Chierico found McCormick for a goal and extended the Queens advantage to 7-1.  Caldwell scored on a free position shot to make the score 7-2.

 

But the Knights got two goals in the closing seconds of the half to lead 9-2 at the break.  The first of the two came when Campo found McCormick with 0:03 remaining.  On the ensuing draw, Campo quickly got the ball up to Martello who scored as the horn sounded.

 

Queens scored three times in the second half to go on and win  12-7.  Mary Pat Gibble found Martello for a goal.  Finally, Chierico and McCormcik each recorded unassisted markers.

 

With the win, the team is now 2-8 on the season.  They return to action on Saturday, April 18, when they host Molloy at noon.
