Janet Campo Scores Twice in Lacrosse Home Opener with Holy Family

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College lacrosse team played its home-opener in a torrential downpour on Wednesday and fell to Holy Family, 14-6.  Despite the loss, Janet Campo scored twice for the Knights.

 

Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into action when Alyssa McCormick came down the left side and put the ball into the middle for Taylor Martello, who scored the goal.  The Lions scored the next six goals before Campo's first goal of the match made the score 6-2.  After another Holy Family marker pushed the lead to 7-2, QC closed out the half with the final two scores.  McCormick scored a free position goal with five minutes left and Martello scored again with less than a second remaining.  The Knights trailed 7-4 at the half.

 

The Lions scored the next five goals to push their lead to 12-4.  Campo's second marker of the contest came with just over eight minutes remaining.  The final QC goal, scored by Martello, came in the waning seconds to make the final score 14-6.

 

In the game, Martello scored three times and Campo twice.  Krista Ancona made 13 saves.  mary Pat Giblle, Stephanie Neuner, Elizabeth DeVivo and Samantha Wolf all caused turnovers on defense.

 

The team is now 0-4 on the season and will look for its first win when the Knights face UDC on Thursday, April 2, at home.
