Women's Lacrosse Outscores Dowling in the Second Half in Loss to Golden Knights

Oakdale, N.Y. - After a slow start, Queens lacrosse outscored Dowling, 6-5, in the second half, in an 18-8 loss to Dowling in an East Coast Conference game played in Oakdale, New York, on Wednesday.  Mary Pat Gibble and Taylor Martello were the offensive stars for the Knights.

 

Queens was behind 8-0 before Martello threw a pass to Gibble that she put into goal to get the Knights on the board with 10:58 remaining.  The Golden Lions scored three more times before Alyssa McCormick scored on a free position shot.  QC trailed 13-2 at the half.

 

Martello and Gibble hooked up again nearly two minutes into the second half to make the score 13-3.  Martello and Gibble connected twice in an 11 second stretch in the second half to make the score 14-5.  12 minutes after that, Gibble returned the favor as she picked up an assist to Martello, who scored.  The goal was the third straight by Queens and made the score 14-6.  Gibble scored one more time in the game, off another feed from Martello.  Finally, Martello capped the QC scoring off an assist from Courtney Canavan.

 

In goal, Krista Ancona made 11 saves, while Basma Attieh turned aside six.  The Queens College lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 21, when they face Mercy in Dobbs Ferry.  The opening draw is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
