Box Score 2 Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team scored 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Molloy. The Knights won game one, 10-6 and took game two, 8-0, in five innings.
In game one, QC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Monique Roberge slugged a home run over the wall in dead center. Later in the inning, Nicole Pirretti blasted a doubled to left which scored Kayla Morrissey. Molloy got a run back in the bottom of the second and QUeens led 2-1, after two innings.
The Knights scored four times in the next inning beginning with Pirretti's second RBI of the game on a base hit. The right fielder went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Later in the frame, Alicia Gonzalez connected on a bases-loaded base hit that plated Kaitlyn Crowley and Morrissey. Stevianne Ognibene drove in the fourth and fifth runs of the inning with an RBI double that landed on the foul line in left. QC led 7-1 at this point. The Lions got three runs in the bottom of the third to get within 7-4.
Morrissey made the score 8-4 for the Knights in the fourth when she put a ball of the wall in right that scored Samantha Mattsson and Melissa Natale. QC completed the scoring in the seventh when a Catherine Pastor base hit up the middle scored Pirretti. Queens went on to win 10-4.
Monique Roberge earned the win and improved to 11-2 on the season. Morrissey collected two hits, drove in a pair and scored twice.
The second game saw Isabelle Yaroch throw a one-hitter less than a week after throwing her second career no hitter. Morrissey got the Knights on the board first with a solo shot over the left-field wall. QC added a second run in the second with a Natale single that scored Pastor.
The Knights put the game away in the fifth by scoring six times in the fifth. Ognibene scored the first run on a throwing error. Roberge blasted a three-run home run and Crowley followed with a two run shot and Queens had the 8-0 win in five innings.
In the doubleheader, the Knights slugged eight doubles and four home runs. Roberge hit two round trippers, Crowley and Morrissey accounted for one each.
With the victories, QC improved to 21-11 overall and 9-5 in the East Coast Conference. The team returns to action on Thursday, April 10, when they host Dowling for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 3:00 PM.
