Box Score 2 Flushing, N.Y. - Junior pitcher, Isabelle Yaroch, tossed a 7-0 no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader between Bridgeport and Queens on Thursday in Flushing. QC also took the opener, 8-0, in five innings.
The no-hitter was the first for Yaroch in QC's career and the first since Amy Delmore took over as head coach. The Annandale, Virginia product did walk nine, but had just two runners reach third base all day. She walked four batters in the second, but got a sparkling defensive play when she started a double play that went to Samantha Mattsson and on to Monique Roberge.
The Purple Knights threatened again in the fifth when Paige Owens tried to tag and score on a fly ball to left. Queens freshman, Stevianne Ognibene threw a strike to Caitlyn Crowley to double up Owens at home.
On offense, the Knights got back-to-back home runs from Kayla Morrissey and Roberge, and Morrissey added a double while driving in six runs in the game.
Earlier in the day, Roberge tossed a two-hit shutout as the Knights took the opener, 8-0, in five innings. In that game, Queens exploded for seven runs in the fourth as Alicia Gonzalez connected on a bases clearing double. Catherine Pastor and Ognibene also contributed with RBI singles in the inning. Roberge improved to 10-1 with the victory.
With the two wins, QC improved to 19-9 overall and 7-3 in the East Coast Conference. They have won five straight and will put that streak on the line on Saturday when they host LIU Post for a doubleheader. The first pitch gets underway at noon.
