Career Game for Crowley Helps Knights Earn Split with LIU Post

Brookville, N.Y. - Queens College senior, catcher Kaitlyn Crowley had a career day in game one against LIU Post on Tuesday, as the Knights beat the Pioneers 12-4 in the opener, but lost in the second game, 3-2.  Crowley blasted a pair of home runs and drove in eight in the win.

Game one was scoreless across the first three innings.  QC took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Kayla Morrissey singled through the left side and Crowley blasted her first home run of the game.  LIU Post responded with a run in their half for the fourth, and the game entered the fifth with Queens ahead, 2-1.

In the fifth, singles from Monqiue Roberge and Samantha Mattsson put a runner in scoring position for Crowley.  The catcher collected her third RBI of the game with a base hit and the Knights led 3-1.  The Pioneers scored three times in the fifth and took a 4-3 lead in the game.

Queens retook the lead for good in the sixth when Alicia Gonzalez tied the game on an error.  Crowley then ripped a two-RBI double to center scoring Roberge and Mattsson.  QC now led, 6-4.

The Knights scored six times in the seventh to win 12-4.  Mattsson drove in the first run with an infield single.  Catherine Pastor scored on a wild pitch.  Roberge drove in a run with a fielder's choice.  Crowley then blasted a three-run-home run to left center field to complete the scoring.

In the win, Crowley had four hits while Pastor, Morrissey and Mattsson had two each.  Isabelle Yaroch came out of the bullpen to get the win.

Queens took the lead in the first inning of game two.  Pastor singled, moved to ssecond on a passed ball, advanced to third on a single and scored on a wild pitch.  The Pioneers pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

A Melissa Natale solo home run evened the score at 2-all in the fifth.  LIU Post scored a run in the sixth to earn a 3-2 win and a split in the series.

The Queens College softball team returns to action on Thursday, April 24, when they host NYIT in a makeup series that was rained out earlier in the season.
