Box Score 2 Bridgeport, Conn. - The Queens College softball team split a doubleheader with Bridgeport on Saturday, dropping the first game, 8-7 and won the second game, 10-2, in five innings. The Knights took three of the four games between the two sides this season.
Queens took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one when Catherine Pastor and Monique Roberge singled and Samantha Mattsson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kayla Morrissey singled to left scoring Pastor and Mattsson. Later in the inning, Nicole Pirretti lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Roberge.
The Purple Knights responded with four runs in their half of the first and added three more runs in the third. They were up 7-3 when QC came to bat in the fifth.
Queens added a pair of runs in the fifth on RBIs from Morrissey and Kaitlyn Crowley. Roberge drove in two more runs with a base hit in the sixth. Bridgeport went on to win, 8-7.
Game two saw Roberge improve to 14-3 in the circle with a complete game win. Roberge doubled home Alicia Gonzalez in the first to give QC a 1-0 lead. The advantage doubled an inning later when Pastor singled to center and Stevianne Ognibene scored. A pair of extra base hits put the Knights up 5-1 in the fifth as Crowley doubled home a run and a Pirretti two-run homer accounted for two more.
The Purple Knights scored a run in third to pull within 5-2, put QC won the game in the fifth by scoring five times. Roberge drove in a run with a double. Ognibene added an RBI single. Pastor was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Morrissey and Ognibene and Pastor scored on a wild pitch.
The team is now 27-13 overall and 13-7 in East Coast Conference play. The Queens College softball team returns to action on Tuesday, April 22, when they face LIU Post on the road. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
