Box Score 2 Sparkill, N.Y. - Queens College softball junior, Monqiue Roberge, equaled her teammate, Isabelle Yaroch, who threw a no-hitter nine days earlier, by not allowing a hit against St. Thomas Aquinas in an ECC softball game played in Sparkill, New York.
She struck out 10 of the 19 batters she faced, didn't walk anyone, and held St. Thomas Aquinas to just one baserunner, when she plunked Katie Meyers with two-outs in the fifth. The Knights won in six innings, 9-0.
Queens got on the board in the second when Kaitlyn Crowley scored on a passed ball. Two innings later, Nicole Pirretti connected on her team-best eleventh double of the season, driving in Samantha Mattsson and Melisaa Natale to put QC up, 3-0. Crowley blasted a homer in the fifith and Roberge came in ahead of her. QC led 5-0 after five.
They put the game away in the next inning on a Natale ground out, a Mattsson double and a Roberge home run. The teams ace in the circle also leads the team with 10 homers.
Roberge improved to 12-3 with the win.
The first game saw the Knights triumph, 4-0, as Isabelle Yaroch improved to 12-6, with a two-hit shutout. Queens got home runs from Roberge and Pirretti and RBI singles from Roberge and Kayla Morrissey. The team is now 24-12 overall and 12-6 in ECC competition.
The Queens College softball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 15, when they host NYIT in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
