Box Score 2 Brookhaven, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team opened East Coast Conference play by splitting a doubleheader at Dowling, dropping the first game, 3-0, but winning the rubber match, 10-0, in five innings. Catherine Pastor roped four hits for the Knights.
Game on saw Isabelle Yaroch take the hard-luck loss, as she allowed just two hits and no earned runs in the complete game. Monique Roberge singled and Sara Schendel reached on an error in the first, but they were stranded on second and third. QC left a pair of runners on base in the second and fourth innings. A three run homer from Jaime Laird accounted for the Golden Lions' offense in game one.
Queens rebounded in the second game to win 10-0 in five innings. Roberge threw three shutout innings to earn the win as Yaroch and Morgan Starley each tossed a scoreless inning.
QC got on the board in the first as Pastor singled and came in to score on a wild pitch. Two innings later, the Knights made it 7-0, with an explosion that saw them score six times. After the first two batters made outs, Roberge reached on an infield hit. Kayla Morrissey got the RBI with a double to right. Kylie Spillett walked. Lindsey Lichtenberger singled through the left side to score Morrissey. She moved to second on the throw home. QC had a 3-0 lead. Nicole Pirretti followed with an RBI single that scored Spillett. Lichtenberger made it 5-0, Queens, when she scored on an error. Pastor singled for the second time in the game and Melissa Natale and Pirretti scored. The Knights led 7-0 after three innings.
Spillett made it 8-0 Knights when she lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Shendel in the fourth. Queens put the game away the next inning with a 2-run homer from Pirretti.
The Queens College softball team is now 13-7 on the year. They return to action on Thursday, March 27, when they host STAC at 3:00 PM.
