Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Flushing, N.Y. - The first day of spring brought warmer temperatures but also brought the red-hot Queens College softball team, which pushed its win streak to eight games with a sweep of Southern Connecticut State in a doubleheader played in Flushing.  QC won the opener 2-0 and took the rubber match, 3-2.

Game one saw Isabelle Yaroch locked in for the Knights in the circle as the junior hurled a complete game, one-hitter.  The only hit was a one-out single by Leanna Feerick in the fifth.  Feerick was promptly erased on a fielder's choice.

QC got both of their runs in the sixth.  Monique Roberge led off with a walk and Alicia Gonzalez came in to run for her.  Two batters later, Nicole Pirretti singled to right center and Queens had two runners on for Kaitlyn Crowley.  Crowley walked to load the bases.  Samantha Mattsson connected on an RBI single that scored Gonzalez and put the Knights up 1-0.  Stevianne Ognibene followed with a groundout that resulted in an RBI and Queens had the 2-0 win.

In the win Yaroch allowed the one hit and struck out three. Pirretti and Ognibene had two hits each.

Game two saw the Knights come from behind to win 3-2.  Ognibene got QC on the board first with an RBI fielder's choice in the second that scored Pirretti.  The Owls answered with two runs in the top of the third.

The game entered the bottom of the fifth with Southern Connecticut ahead, 2-1.  Sara Schendel was hit by the pitch to lead off the frame for the Knights.  Two batters later, Kayle Morrissey blasted a home run that hits the Owls' bus behind the bleachers in right-center to score Schendel and put QC up, 3-2.  Roberge went the distance to earn the win.  Mattsson had two of the Knights' five hits.

The Queens College softball team returns to action on Sunday, March 23, when they host American International in a doubleheader.  The first pitch is slated for noon.
