Box Score 2 Lakewood, N.J. - The Queens College softball team had its first action since returning from Florida on Friday, and the swept a doubleheader against Georgian Court, 14-12 (9 innings) and 9-0.
In game one, QC got on the board early as Melissa Natale led off with a solo homerun. Later in the inning, after Queens got an unearned run, Nicole Pirretti drove her in with an RBI single.
The Knights eventually pushed the lead to 6-0 with a Samantha Mattsson RBI hit in the third and a Kayla Morrissey connected on a two-run-homerun in the fourth. Another homerun, this one from Roberge, put Queens ahead, 8-4 after five and a half innings.
The Lions rallied with two runs in the sixth and seventh to even the score and force extra innings. Each side scored a run in the 8th, so the teams headed into the ninth even at 9-all. QC put the game away with five runs in the ninth as Pirretti and Mattsson each had RBI doubles.
The second game featured Monique Roberge tossing a four-hit shutout. The game was scoreless until the fifth, when the Knights took a 1-0 lead on an unearned run. The next inning saw the Knights score six times on a pair of three-run-homeruns from Cat Pastor and Kylie Spillett. Kayla Morrissey and Sara Schendel each added solo shots in the seventh and the Knights went on for a 9-0 win.
The team returns to action on Saturday, when they host Chestnut Hill in a doubleheader.
