Lacrosse Closes Out Season with 20-12 Loss at Dowling

Box Score

Oakdale, N.Y. - Seven Knights seniors competed in their last game on Wednesday night as Queens fell to Dowling, 20-12, in a game played in Oakdale, New York.  QC finished the 2013 campaign with a 10-6 overall mark, including a 4-3 record in East Coast Conference play.

Seniors Melissa Montreuil (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Sarah Boucher (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Kayleen Kelty (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Heather Rosen (Holbrook, N.Y.) combined to score ten of the Knights' 12 markers.  The other two scores came from the stick of Taylor Martello (Carle Place, N.Y.).

The game began with Dowling scoring the first five markers before the Knights responded with a goal from Montreuil.  A pair of free position goals from Boucher got Queens within 5-3 halfway through the half, and a Martello score at 14:31 drew QC within a point, at 5-4.  The Golden Lions scored the next six goals to lead 11-4, but Boucher found the back of the net for the third time with less than ten seconds remaining.  Dowling led 11-5 at the break.

The Golden Lions opened the scoring less than a minute into the second half as Allie Merrill put Dowling ahead, 12-5.  Less than a minute later, the Knights responded as Martello found Montreuil, who scored.  Queens then got a score from Martello and a couple from Rosen, but it wasn't enough as Dowling went on for the 20-12 victory.

Kayla Mergl (Sayville, N.Y.) led the Knights with three groundballs in the game.  The team finished the season at 10-6, for a winning percentage of .625.  The team set school records for wins and winning percentage, and finished above the .500 mark for the third straight season.
