Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Flushing, N.Y. – The Knights softball needed two victories
going into today's regularly scheduled doubleheader and a
continuation of an extra-innings contest suspended on April
4th.
Continuation
of Game Two from April 4th
QC would win the continued game (picked up top of the eighth)
against the Mercy Mavericks 8-7 in ten innings. Sara Schendel drove
in the game's winning run with a huge RBI single to center in
the top of the tenth, scoring Samantha Mattsson from third.
Isabelle Yaroch, who relieved Nicole Turato in the third inning of
this game on April 4th, continued pitching and earned
the victory for the Knights.
Game
One
After winning the continuation, things looked up for the
Knights. However, Mercy got on the board in the first game of the
twin bill against Isabelle Yaroch. In the first inning, Mercy
scored two runs and followed up with a run in the top of the
second.
That was all Mercy would need as starting pitcher Brittany
Serrao pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs (1 earned)
on seven Knight hits. QC's runs came thanks to a Monique
Roberge RBI single in the first and a bases-loaded passed ball in
bottom of the fourth.
Game one went Mercy's way 3-2.
Game
Two
With the fourth seed in the ECC championships on the line, QC
still had hope to capture the spot with a victory in game two.
A trip to the ECC's was not to be as Mercy defeated Queens
by the score of 7-2.
Prior to the game, the head coach Amy Delmore took time to
honor seniors Caroline Carbone, Alexandra Drago and Carla Pennolino
for their hard work and commitment to the Knights all four years.
The Knights softball team also took time to honor senior Alex
Garrett, who's been announcing games the last four years.
