Queens, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to #15 LIU Post, 6-3 and 8-0, from the softball field on campus on Saturday.  The team heads into its final series against Mercy with a record of 13-23 overall and 11-14 in East Coast Conference play.

Game One:

The Pioneers wasted no time getting the lead in game one as Alexis Gonzalez ripped an RBI double to right-center that scored Liz Weber.  Gonzalez made it 2-0, LIU Post when she scored on a wild pitch, several tosses later.

Post threatened again in the fifth and Gonzalez was the catalyst.  With two-outs, the centerfielder singled to left-center.  She went to third when the following batter, Nicole Hagenah, got a base hit.  With runners on the corners and two-outs, Knights pitcher Isabelle Yaroch (Annadale, Va.), escaped harm by inducing Aly Dzierzynski to ground out to short.

Queens finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth.  Yaroch drew a one-out walk and she was on base when Carla Pennolino (Middle Village, N.Y.) connected on a game-tying homerun into the bleachers in left field.  Her blast evened the score at 2-2.

The final inning started auspiciously for QC the first two batters were retired in order.  However, five straight Pioneers hits plated four runs, and they took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.  The Knights pushed across a run in the seventh as Cat Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) scored on a base hit from Monique Roberge (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), but Roberge was thrown out at second to end the game.

Pastor and Roberge each had a pair of hits to lead Queens.  Pennolino and Roberge accounted for the three RBI in the game.  Yaroch was tagged with the loss.

Game Two:

The Knights fell to the Pioneers 8-0, in five innings, in the second game.  LIU Post scored twice in the second, four times in the third and twice again in the fourth.  Samantha Mattson (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Caroline Carbone (East Williston, N.Y.) each had a hit for Queens in game two.

The Knights close out their regular season schedule on Sunday, April 28 as they host Mercy in Queens.  The action begins at 12:30 PM, with a Senior Day ceremony honoring the three seniors, Carbone, Alexandra Drago and Pennolino.  Also of note, prior to the doubleheader, the teams will complete a suspended game from April 4.  The score  is tied at 7-7 and the game will begin in the top of the eighth inning with Queens batting as the visiting side.
