Knights Send Lacrosse Seniors Out With an 8-6 Win Over Georgian Court

Box Score

Queens, N.Y. - The Queens College lacrosse team sent its seven seniors out in style with an exciting, 8-6 win over Georgian Court in the final home game of the season on Wednesday.  With the win, the Knights improved to 9-5 on the season.  The seven seniors honored prior to the game were Janine Guerra (Whitestone, N.Y.), Melissa Montreuil (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Taylor Sommers (Hicksville, N.Y.), Kayleen Kelty (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Nicole Haa (Baldwin, N.Y.), Heather Rosen (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Sarah Boucher (Oceanside, N.Y.).

The game was largely about possession, as the side that won the draw controls usually had the best scoring chances.  Ten minutes into the contest and it looked ominous for the Knights as a pair of Lions goals by Olivia Rotunno and Stephanie Gallo put Georgian Court ahead, 2-0.  From there, Queens rallied with three answered goals, two by seniors Boucher and Montreuil and another from Taylor Martello (Carle Place, N.Y.); and QC led 3-2.  The Lions quickly responded with an equalizer and Boucher and Kelty scored to put the Knights up 5-3 with 4:47 left in the half.  Georgian Court tied the game by halftime, with the tying goal coming with less than a second remaining.

The second half began with Kelty and Rosen hooking up for a marker less than two minutes in, which put Queens ahead for good, 6-5.  Shannon Doody (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored to put QC 7-5.  From there, the Lions scored to pull within 7-6, but a late goal from Boucher put the game away for Queens.

Boucher registered a game-high five draw controls.  Kahli Evans (Adelaide, Australia)led the Knights with six groundballs; while Guerra picked up five.  Additionally, Guerra caused two turnovers.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, April 27, when they travel to Rochester, New York, to face East Coast Conference opponent, Roberts Wesleyan.  The opening draw is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
