Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Flushing, N.Y. – The Queens College softball team split an
East Coast Conference twin bill. They fell to the University of
Bridgeport Purple Knights 7-3 in game one, but rebounded for a 2-1
victory in game two.
Game
One
Bridgeport got on the board early in game one. A five-run first
inning off game one starter Isabelle Yaroch put UB ahead for
good.
Offensively, the Knights scored runs in the bottom of the first,
fifth and seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Monique Roberge
sent her fifth home run of the season sailing over the centerfield
wall.
The loss put QC at 10-13 in ECC play.
Game
Two
In game two, QC got a valiant effort from starter Nicole
Turato. Throwing a complete game, Turato allowed just one run
(earned) on three hits. She added to her strikeout total in 2013,
punching out eight Purple Knights.
The offense had Nicole's back, with Sara Schendel plating
Monique Roberge as the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. The
Knights trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth. In the
bottom-half of the fifth, Caroline Carbone scored the game-tying
run on an Alex Drago double-play.
QC's game two victory put them at 11-13 in the ECC.
The Queens softball team continues their homestand on Saturday,
April 27th when they host a doubleheader against LIU
Post. First pitch on the campus of Queens College is 12 PM.
