FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College softball team played host to East Coast Conference-leading Molloy College Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader, with the visiting Lions capturing triumphs by the scores of 3-1 and 4-1.
Game 1: Molloy 3, Queens 1
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, when freshman Sara Schendel (Seattle, Wash.) doubled home junior Carla Pennolino (Middle Village, N.Y.; leadoff walk) with two away in the frame.
Freshman hurler Isabelle Yaroch (Annandale, Va.) went the distance in the pitcher's circle for QC, striking out six while scattering five hits and three walks.
Game 2: Molloy 4, Queens 1
Queens responded to a four-run fourth inning by Molloy with a run of its own in the bottom half of the frame. Schendel led off with a single up the middle, and moved up two bases on sophomore Melissa Natale's (Yaphank, N.Y.; 2-for-2) double to right-center. Junior Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.) then lofted a sacrifice fly to center, plating Schendel with the final run of the contest.
Interim head coach John Pisano's Knights are back in ECC action at home Tuesday afternoon (April 10), when Dowling College comes to Flushing for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
