CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference
announced their 2012 softball all-conference award winners Friday
afternoon, and a trio of Queens College freshman student-athletes
were tabbed on the all-conference second team: utility player
Monique Roberge (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), second baseman Jennifer
Shereyka (Parlin, N.J.) and right-handed pitcher Isabelle Yaroch
(Annandale, Va.).
Roberge hit .370 (27-for-73) with a team-best 18 runs batted in,
and tied for the team-high with three home runs in her rookie
campaign. She also reached base at a .483 clip. Roberge's .562
slugging percentage was also the top mark on the squad.
Shereyka played in all 38 contests for the Knights as a freshman
-- just one of three players to do so (sophomore center fielder
Melissa Natale, and sophomore catcher Kaitlyn Crowley). She hit
.258 on the season, and walked (11) more than she struck out (8).
Included in Shereyka's totals were seven extra-base hits, including
a team-high two triples.
Yaroch posted a 2.33 earned run average on the season, good for
the seventh-best mark on the ECC. She fired her first collegiate
no-hitter March 29 at NYIT, and registered 18 complete games and
two saves in the pitcher's circle. Yaroch also struck out 100
hitters in 162 innings pitched for the Knights.
Roberge, Shereyka and Yaroch were just part of the reason
interim head coach John Pisano's Queens side went 20-18 on the 2012
campaign, including a 13-15 mark in ECC play that was good for the
fourth and final spot in the conference tournament. This marked the
Knights' first appearance in the ECC Championships in three
seasons.
