Schedule Announced for 2012 ECC Softball Championships

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference announced the schedule for its 2012 softball championships Monday, and the Queens College Knights will open tournament play Thursday afternoon.

The Knights, seeded fourth in the four-team tourney, will play top-seeded Molloy at 3:30 p.m. All contests for the double-elimination championships will be held in Rockville Centre, N.Y., at the Bob Klein Field inside the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex.

Interim head coach John Pisano's Queens side has received clutch performances at various points throughout the season from a variety of players. Among the top performers, freshman Monique Roberge (New Hyde Park, N.Y.; .368 avg.) and junior Carla Pennolino (Middle Village, N.Y.) have parked three home runs apiece, driving in 18 and 14 runs, respectively. Freshman Samantha Mattsson (Staten Island, N.Y.) sports a .323 batting average with 14 RBI and team-bests of seven doubles and 17 runs scored, while junior Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.), an all-conference performer a year ago in her collegiate debut season, is hitting .301 and is tied with Mattsson for the team lead in runs scored.

The pitching duo of Isabelle Yaroch (Fr., Annandale, Va.) and Nicole Turato (So., Garden City, N.Y.) have thrown all the innings for the Knights to date. Yaroch went 10-12 with a 1.92 ERA, 16 complete games, two saves and 95 strikeouts in 149.1 innings. Turato compiled a 10-4 record in the circle, fanning 58 hitters in 96.1 innings pitched.
