FLUSHING, N.Y. - Freshman slugger Sara Schendel (Seattle, Wash.) went 3-for-4 with a double and solo homer Tuesday afternoon in the nightcap of the Queens College softball team's East Coast Conference home doubleheader visiting Dowling College. However, it was the visiting Golden Lions who swept the twinbill by scores of 4-0 and 3-2 (8 innings), respectively.
Game 1: Dowling 4, Queens 0
The Knights collected two hits in the opening contest, with freshman Jennifer Shereyka (Parlin, N.J.) rapping a double and sophomore Kaitlyn Crowley (Patchogue, N.Y.) collecting a base-knock. Schendel and classmate Cat Franzone (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each reach based safely on a walk.
Game 2: Dowling 3, Queens 2 (8 inn.)
Schendel put the Knights in front by a 1-0 count in the bottom of the fourth, when she launched a solo homer to right-center field.
After Dowling went ahead 2-1 in the next inning, QC responded and knotted the game in the bottom of the fifth when junior Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.) scored on an infield error.
In total, Queens rapped eight hits off of Golden Lions pitching, and registered four walks.
Interim head coach John Pisano's Knights are back in action Thursday afternoon, when they travel to Sparkill, N.Y., for a 3:30 p.m. ECC twinbill at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
