Women's Lacrosse Downs Fort Lewis, 17-12

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Queens College women's lacrosse team came back from a two-goal halftime deficit Sunday afternoon and netted 10 of the final 13 goals of its contest against Fort Lewis, as the Knights improved to 2-1 on the young season by defeating the Skyhawks, 17-12. Both Meghan Monahan and Melissa Montreuil had five-point outings in the victory for Queens.

Monahan registered four goals and one assist on the rainy afternoon, while Heather Rosen fired home four goals as well. Montreuil (2 a) and Sarah Boucher (4 dc, 1 a) also had hat tricks for the Knights, who outshot the Skyhawks (0-1) by a 31-16 count. Brittany Wooster (4 dc), Kayleen Kelty (one dc) and Julianne Lostrappo each had one goal in the win, while Janine Guerra dished out one assist. Goalkeeper Kahli Evans turned aside four shots in the Queens cage.

QC trailed 7-5 at the half to Fort Lewis, and by a 9-7 score with 24 minutes remaining in the contest. From there, Queens scored four straight goals – including two by Rosen – to take the lead at 11-9. Fort Lewis then knotted the game at 11-all with 14:53 to go, before Boucher and Lostrappo scored on back-to-back free-position shots to give the Knights the lead for good at 13-11. The Skyhawks pulled to within a two-goal deficit (14-12) with 5:55 left, before two Monahan tallies sandwiched a goal by Rosen to seal the victory.

Head coach Kerry Hausdorf's Queens squad is back in action Wednesday (Mar. 9), when it plays host to Dominican at 3:30 p.m.
