COLONIA, N.J. – In the East Coast Conference's tenth weekly report of the season, four members of the Queens College baseball team earned conference honors Monday afternoon.
Senior right fielder
Vincent Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.) was named Co-Player of the Week, while senior right-hander
Johnny Dezago (Howard Beach, N.Y.) was named Pitcher of the Week honors. Sophomores
Peter Bounougias (Plainview, N.Y.), and
Tommy Pasqua (Williston Park, N.Y.) were both named to the Honor Roll.
Co-Player of the Week
Mallon has now appeared on the weekly report for the fifth consecutive week, earning his first Player of the Week distinction of the season.
Mallon continued his scorching stretch at the plate, batting .500 with a .560 on-base percentage and a 1.091 slugging percentage across five games. He tallied 11 hits, including four doubles and three home runs, while scoring eight runs, driving in 10, drawing two walks, and stealing six bases. Mallon recorded a hit in all five games, posting four multi-hit efforts and two multi-RBI performances. In a comeback win over Staten Island, he matched a season high with five RBI, highlighted by a double, a home run, and three runs scored. He added his third home run of the weekend series on Sunday to help Queens secure a key ECC victory.
Pitcher of the Week
For the first time this year Dezago has named to the weekly report sheet and the third Knights' pitcher this year to earn Pitcher of the Week honors.
Dezago made two appearances, including one start, totaling 6.2 innings while allowing nine hits and five earned runs with eight strikeouts. In a rain-shortened game, Dezago threw his first career complete game, allowing three earned runs and striking out a season-high six batters to earn the win on Sunday.
Honor Roll
For the first time this year, Bounougias has earned a spot on the Honor Roll sheet.
Bounougias posted a strong week at the plate, batting .313 with a .450 on-base percentage and a .563 slugging percentage. He totaled five hits, including a double and a home run, while scoring six runs, drawing four walks, and driving in eight. Bounougias recorded two multi-hit and two multi-RBI games. In the two wins over Staten Island, he went 4-for-? with five runs scored, a double, a home run, and eight RBI. After a three-RBI performance on Saturday, he followed with a career-high five RBI and two runs scored on Sunday to help secure the conference victory.
Honor Roll
For the first time this year, Pasqua has earned a spot on the Honor Roll sheet.
Pasqua delivered a career-best week, hitting .474 with a .583 on-base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage. He recorded nine hits, including a double, drew three walks, stole a base, scored a team-high nine runs, and drove in five. Pasqua tallied a hit in all five games, notching three multi-hit and two multi-RBI performances. He added three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's ECC victory.
Next Pitch
The Knights travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for a four-game ECC series against D'Youville University at Sal Maglie Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for Friday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m.
