BARTOW, FL – The 2026 season for the Queens College softball team got underway Saturday afternoon as the Knights faced Clarion University and Wayne State College at the Miss Bartow Softball Complex.
In the opener against Clarion, Queens totaled seven hits led by junior infielder
Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.), who recorded three hits and scored a run. Rookie catcher
Brooke Waiting (Seaford, N.Y.) impressed in her collegiate debut with a multi-hit performance.
Junior teammates
Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA.) and junior
Olivia Wanser (Westbury, N.Y.) each added a hit, with Wanser driving in two runs.
The Knights struck first as Wanser delivered a two-RBI single to give Queens an early advantage. Clarion responded to even the score after three innings before breaking the game open with a combined seven runs across the fourth and fifth innings to secure a 9-2 victory.
In the nightcap against Wayne State College, Queens collected six hits, highlighted by Cain's second consecutive multi-hit performance. Rookie infielder
Rachel Salgado (Brentwood, N.Y.) also impressed in her debut, tallying two hits including a triple while adding a RBI and scoring a run. Sophomore right fielder
Brigid Hood (Wantagh, N.Y.) contributed with a hit and an RBI.
Wayne State jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play. Hood's RBI single in the bottom of the third put Queens on the board, but Wayne State responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to extend its lead and eventually claim a 12-2 victory.
Next Pitch
On day two of THE Spring Games, the Knights will face the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) and Point Park University. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
