Donahue Throws Complete Game on Day Two of THE Spring Games

BARTOW, FL – On day two of THE Spring Games, the Queens College softball team faced the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Cougars and the Point Park University Pioneers on Saturday morning.

In the first game of the day, the trio of senior infielder Allie Parascandola (East Quogue, N.Y.), rookie Brooke Waiting (Seaford, N.Y.), and rookie second baseman Rachel Salgado (Brentwood, N.Y.) each recorded a hit for the Knights. However, Queens would fall to the Cougars by a score of 15–0.

In the second game against Point Park, rookie right-handed pitcher Nellie Donahue (Levittown, N.Y.) red her first career complete game, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out a career-best four batters.

Offensively, junior infielder Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) continued her strong weekend with her third multi-hit game of the trip, while sophomore right fielder Brigid Hood (Wantagh, N.Y.) added the Knights' other hit of the contest.

Despite creating scoring chances, Queens was unable to capitalize, leaving nine runners on base.

The Pioneers took advantage of a fielding error to take a 1–0 lead in the top of the first inning. Queens looked to respond immediately, loading the bases on three walks, but Point Park escaped the inning with a strikeout to keep the Knights off the board.

As Donahue continued to keep the game within reach, Queens again threatened in the bottom of the fifth. Hood and Cain recorded singles, and Waiting reached after being hit by a pitch to load the bases for the second time in the game.

However, tough luck struck when a line drive off the bat of junior Olivia Wanser (Westbury, N.Y.) hit Cain on the base paths, resulting in an automatic out and ending the inning.

Point Park added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning and held on to defeat Queens 3–0.

Next Pitch
