COLONIA, N.J. – In the sixth East Coast Conference weekly report of the season, the Queens College softball team earned multiple conference honors Monday afternoon. Junior
Olivia Wanser (Westbury, N.Y.) was named ECC Player of the Week, while rookie right-hander
Nellie Donahue (Levittown, N.Y.) earned a spot on the Honor Roll.
Wanser has now earned recognition for the third consecutive week, highlighted by her first Player of the Week honor of the season. Donahue, meanwhile, collected her second Honor Roll selection of the year.
Player of the Week
Wanser continued to pace the offense, batting a team-best .700 with a .769 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. She recorded a team-high seven hits, including a home run, while scoring one run, drawing three walks, and driving in two RBI. The junior totaled 10 bases with one extra-base hit over the four-game week. Wanser extended her team-leading hitting streak to 11 games and her on-base streak to 12 games, highlighted by a perfect 4-for-4 performance in Game Two against SCSU.
Honor Roll
Donahue continued to lead the way in the circle, making two starts this week and tossing 13.0 innings. She allowed 13 hits and four earned runs while walking five and striking out 15 batters. Despite two tough 3-2 losses, Donahue kept her team in both contests. The rookie recorded a career-high eight strikeouts against SCSU on Wednesday, followed by a seven-strikeout performance against CSI, where the visitors pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning.
Next Pitch
Queens remains at home and returns to action on Wednesday, April 1, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College in ECC play. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
