Baseball Concludes Regular Season Play Against Spartans Sunday

POMONA, N.Y. – The Queens College baseball team wrapped up the 2025 regular season Sunday at Clover Stadium against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College in the final East Coast Conference game of the year in Pomona.

Having clinched an ECC postseason spot Friday afternoon, the Knights rested the majority of their starters in the final regular season game of the year.

In the final game, three Knights were led by senior utility Penn Sealey (Raleigh, N.C.) (1-2 AB, RBI), rookie catcher Jake Levesque (Pinellas Park, Fla.) (1-2 AB, R, BB) and junior shortstop Nick Piazza (Queens, N.Y.) (1-3 AB, R) and red-shirt freshman Evan Paladino (Wantagh, N.Y.) combining for three hits, three runs scored and one RBI.

With the Knights trailing 9-3 heading into the top of the ninth, Mother Nature would intervene as the Spartans earned the 9-3 victory and earn a 2-2 series split.

GAME FOUR RECAP (QUEENS 3, STAC 9)

The Knights would be held off the bases through the first three innings of play before Sealey reached base on a hit by pitch to give Queens their first runner of the game in the top of the fourth with one out.

But the Spartans would keep the game scoreless as they retired the next two batters.

The home side would score six runs over the next three innings to take a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh.

The Knights would attempt to put together a comeback rally as they loaded the bases behind a fielder's choice play and back-to-back hits from Levesque and Piazza.

Queens would score two runs on a throwing error before Sealey got the Knights within three, 6-3 with a sac fly out to left field to score Piazza. However, the Spartans would extend their lead to 9-3 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Knights were retired in order in the top of the eighth before a last chance opportunity to get back in the game in the ninth was denied by heavy rain.
