Softball Honors Seniors in ECC Home Finale Thursday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College softball team wrapped up their 2025 homestand with an East Coast Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon against St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans at QC Softball Field.

Head coach Amy Delmore and the Knights honored their four graduating seniors in Emma Zumpol (Patchogue, N.Y.), Riley O'Connor (Maspeth, N.Y.), Caroline Pescatore (North Babylon, N.Y.), and Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.) for their dedication to Queens College and Softball program.

GAME ONE RECAP

In game one, the Knights were held to six hits led by Baez (1-3 AB, 2B, RBI, R, SB), Zumpol (1-3 AB, R), junior first baseman Allie Parascandola (East Quoque, N.Y.) (1-3 AB), sophomore shortstop Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) (1-3 AB), Pescatore (1-3 AB), and O'Connor (1-3 AB) with Baez recording the lone RBI for the Knights.

After a scoreless first inning of play, the Spartans would take a 1-0 lead using a two-out rally as they recorded three hits.

In the home half of the second, with one out, Cain singled to right field before using a throwing error to advance to second base. However as the Spartans got the second out, a single up the middle from O'Connor looked to have scored Cain, but a sharp throw from the outfield would catch Cain just short of scoring as the Spartans kept their 1-0 lead.

The Spartans would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third using a fielding error to their advantage.

In the home half of the third, with two outs, Parascandola singled down the left field line as the Knights looked to cut into their deficit. But once again the Spartans would avoid trouble as they were able to get the third out of the inning.

The visitors added three runs in the top of the third and six runs in the top of the seventh to take an 11-0 lead.

Queens would avoid the shutout as Zumpol singled to right field before a RBI double from Baez through the left side got the Knights on the scoreboard. With one out, Pescatore singled up the middle to advance Baez to third base. Queens would execute a double steal as Baez scored the Knights' second run of the game but the Knights would fall to the final score of 11-2 in game one.

GAME TWO RECAP

In the nightcap, the Knights recorded five hits led by Baez (2-3 AB, 2RBI) multi-hit performance, while the trio of Parascandola (1-2 AB, R), sophomore utility Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA.) (1-3 AB, R) and Zumpol (1-3 AB) combined for the other three hits.

The Spartans took a 1-0 after the top of the first inning. But Queens would waste little time in answering back as Parascandola reached base on a hit by pitch before a sharp single from Campbell put two Knights on and no outs.

As the Spartans retired Zumpol for the first out, the senior would advance both runners into scoring position. A two RBI single from Baez would score both Parascandola and Campbell as Queens took a 2-1 lead after the completion of the first inning of play.

However, the hot bats of the Spartans would see the visitors score nine unanswered runs to complete the series sweep with a 10-2 game two victory Thursday evening.

NEXT PITCH

The Knights wrap up the 2025 season in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Sunday, Apr. 27 as they match up against the Mavericks of Mercy University.  The first pitch is set for noon.
