Comeback Rallies Fall Short as Softball Drops DH Against Staten Island Friday Afternoon

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Concluding their six-game East Coast Conference week the Queens College softball team made the trip to Staten Island, N.Y. for a Friday doubleheader against the College of Staten Island Dolphins at the CSI Softball Complex.

The Knights limited the Dolphins to two runs over the four innings of play but as the Dolphins added two insurances run in the home half of the fifth, Queens put together a rally in the top of the sixth to get within two, but the Dolphins would secure the victory as they held off the Knights in the top of the seventh for a game one victory to the score of 4-2. In the nightcap, It would be four shutout innings before the Dolphins scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth, but another late rally would fall short as the Knights fell 3-2 in game two.

GAME ONE RECAP

In game one, the Knights were held to four hits led by junior first baseman Allie Parascandola (East Quoque, N.Y.) (1-3 AB, R), sophomore utility Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA.) (1-3 AB, R), sophomore shortstop Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) (1-2 AB, BB) and senior right fielder Caroline Pescatore (North Babylon, N.Y.) (1-3 AB), while senior third baseman Emma Zumpol (Patchogue, N.Y.) recorded the lone RBI in the game.

Parascandola opened the game by reaching base on a hit by pitch but the Dolphins would avoid trouble as they were able to catch Parascandola stealing second base while retiring the other two batters.

The home side took a 2-0 lead using two walks and a two-RBI single after the completion of the first inning of play.

In a pitcher's duel, the Knights would leave three base runners over the next four innings of play before the Dolphins added two insurances run in the home frame of the fifth inning.

Queens would put together a rally in the top of the sixth as Parascandola and Campbell recorded back-to-back singles before advancing into scoring position on a wild pitch. Zumpol would get Queens on board with a sac fly out to left field as Parascandola scored. As senior center fielder Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.) earned a walk, a fielding error would allow Campbell to score as the Knights were able to get within two, 4-2. But the Dolphins would strand Baez and Cain on base to end the inning and keep their 4-2 lead intact.

The Knights would retire in order in the top of the seventh as the Dolphins earned a 4-2 victory.
