Knights Offense Kept Quiet in Game One against D’Youville

NIAGARA FALL, N.Y. – Opening a six-game road trip beginning in Niagara Falls, the Queens College baseball team matched up against the Saints of D'Youville University Friday afternoon in game one of the four-game East Coast Conference series.

The Knights were limited to five hits led by sophomore Joey Patane (Commack, N.Y) (2-3 AB, 3B) seventh multi-hit game, while the trio of sophomore right fielder Jorsixt Jimenez (Flushing, N.Y) (1-3 AB, 2B, BB), junior second baseman Robert Jacobsen (Temecula, CA) (1-4 AB) and freshman left fielder Frank Romano (West Islip, N.Y.) (1-3 AB) combined for three hits as the Knights were shutout for the second time this year.

With the loss, the Knights move to 15-101 overall and 6-3 in ECC play.

GAME ONE RECAP (QUEENS 0, D'YOUVILLE 7)

With two outs in the top of the first inning, Jimenez recorded his team-leading 12th double of the year with a shot to left center field but the Saints would leave the sophomore stranded on second base to end the inning.

In the top of the second inning, the Knights would earn back-to-back walks with one out but once again the Saints would avoid trouble. In the home half of the second DYU would record a two-out single and earn a walk but game one starter senior righty Jordan Sanabria (Woodside, N.Y.) would leave both runners stranded on base to keep the game scoreless.

In the third inning, Jacobsen began the inning with a bunt single before the Saints got the first out. As Jimenez battled in his at-bat, the junior would get caught stealing second base before the sophomore earned a walk. But once again the Knights were unable to open the scoring.

Sanabria would work out of a two-out single to keep the game knotted at zero after three complete innings of play.

While in the top of the fourth with one out, Patane recorded his team-leading third triple of the year but the sophomore would get caught stealing as they were unable to take advantage of opening the scoring.

Sanabria would keep the Saints off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth as the home side notched back-to-back singles with one out. DYU would score the first run of the game on a wild pitch before a fielding error allowed the Saints to extend their advantage to 3-0 after five complete innings of play.

Over the final four innings of play, the Knights were only able to get three runners on base while the Saints added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings of play to take game one of the series to the final score of 7-0.
