Game Day Preview: Softball Concludes the Regular Season with Three Doubleheaders on the Week

FLUSHING, N.Y.  – The final week of the regular season has arrived for the Queens College softball team as the Knights get set to play three doubleheaders in four days. 
 
The week opens with a midweek non-conference matchup against the Cougars of Caldwell University on Wednesday (Apr. 26) afternoon before returning to East Coast Conference play to conclude the regular season. 
 
The Knights welcome the Lions of Molloy University to Flushing on Thursday (Apr. 27) afternoon before hitting the road to Sparkill on Saturday (Apr. 29) afternoon against the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College. 
 
Scouting the Knights (Overall Record: 9-27, 6-10 ECC)
 
The Knights swept College of Staten Island last week to earn the four-game series sweep over their conference foe to lock up a postseason spot. 
 
On Monday (Apr. 24) afternoon, graduate student Allyson Dilday (Castle Rock, Co.) was awarded her second straight ECC Honor Roll spot for her performance last week.
 
In the Tuesday DH against CSI, Dilday put on a pitching clinic as the Castle Rock native pitched back-to-back games putting in 14 innings of work as she limited the Dolphins to 10 hits, one earned run, four walks, and punched out a total of 21 batters. In game one, Dilday recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts as the Knights clinched the series victory with a 5-1 win. In game two, she would pitch her second shutout against the Dolphins as she added 9 strikeouts to her tally as she held CSI scoreless for a combined 13 innings on the day as Queens swept the season series over their CUNY foe.
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .236 with 214 hits, 72 RBI, 78 runs scored, and have earned 62 walks in 907 at-bats.
 
Leading the Way
  • Sophomore Caroline Pescatore (North Babylon, N.Y.) leads the team with a batting average of .324 with 22 hits, one double, five RBI, and 11 runs scored.
    • The North Babylon native has tallied five multi-hit games with two three-hit performances. 
  • Senior Ann Grimshaw (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) is batting .307 with a team-high 35 hits, a team-high eight doubles, one home run and has recorded a team-high 15 RBI.
  • Junior Dyana Budakowski (Washingtonville, N.Y.) is batting .262 with 28 hits, one double, one triple with four RBI, and a team-high 14 runs scored. 
    • Budakowski has tallied seven multi-hit games on the season
  • In the pitching circle, Dilday leads the team with seven wins to go with a team-high 101 strikeouts.
    • The Castle Rock native has a season-high 12 strikeouts in the victory over CSI and has posted two shutouts on the season. 

Caldwell University (Overall Record: 31-13)

Caldwell enters the week with an overall record of 31-13 and are on a two-game losing skid having dropped a doubleheader to Georgian Court Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The Knight are on a four-game losing streak to the Cougars and are looking for their first win since the 2015 season. Road matches up have been unkind to Queens against Caldwell as Queens are winless in their last 13 games in New Jersey. 
 
As a team, the Cougars are batting .330 with 423 hits, 77 doubles, 11 triples, eight home runs, 226 RBI with 255 runs scored, and have earned 127 walks in 1281 at-bats. 
 
Ashleigh Tavaska leads the offense batting .336 with 48 hits, 16 doubles, 21 runs scored, and a team-high 36 RBI. While Alexa Lee is batting .384 with 43 hits, eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 28 runs scored, and 29 RBI. 
 
Olivia Kennedy leads the Cougars with 11 wins in the circle. 
 

Molloy University (Overall Record: 26-18, 12-4 ECC)

Molloy enters the week with an overall record of 26-18 and 12-4 in conference play and are coming off a series split against STAC Tuesday evening.  
 
The Lions are batting .291 with 358 hits, 58 doubles, six triples, 21 home runs with 190 RBI with 217 runs scored, and have earned 76 walks in 1232 at-bats. 
 
Alex Burns leads the team with 33 RBI while holding a batting average of .292 with 35 hits, six doubles, one triple, and eight home runs with 20 runs scored. While Steph Conrade is batting a team-high .346 with 53 hits, two doubles, one triple, 32 runs scored, and 20 RBI. 
 
Amanda King leads the Lions having earned 11 wins on the season. 
 

Saint Thomas Aquinas College (Overall Record: 26-16, 13-5 ECC)

STAC enters the week with an overall record of 26-16 and 13-5 in ECC play and are coming off a series split against Molloy Tuesday evening.  
 
The Knights looking to earn their first victory over the Spartans since they won 1-0 on April 22, 2018, as they look to end a 14-game losing streak to their conference foe. 
 
As a team, STAC is batting .257 with 285 hits, 48 doubles, eight triples, 11 home runs, 145 RBI, 184 runs scored, and have earned 108 walks in 1108 at-bats.
 
Eliana Raposo leads the team with 21 RBI while batting .286 with 38 hits, seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 28 runs scored. While Adriana Coira is batting .285 with 39 hits, three doubles, four triples, 20 RBI, and 25 runs scored.  
 
Carissa Della Vecchia leads the team with 15 wins in the circle.
