Game Day Preview: Softball Continues ECC Play at Home Before Concluding the Week on the Road

FLUSHING, N.Y.  – It will be a six-game week for the Queens College softball team as East Coast Conference continues. 
 
The week opens with back-to-back doubleheaders against the Mavericks of Mercy College in Flushing on Thursday (Apr. 13) afternoon before they travel to Dobbs Ferry on Friday (Apr. 14) afternoon. 
 
Queens concludes the week in Buffalo as they match up against the Saints of D'Youville University.
 
Scouting the Knights (Overall Record: 6-22, 3-5 ECC)
 

The Knights dropped two doubleheaders last week to Pace University in non-conference play before falling short against Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Flushing. 
 
While on Monday (Apr. 10) afternoon, senior Ann Grimshaw (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) was awarded an ECC Honor Roll spot for the third straight week.
 
For the third straight week, Grimshaw earned a Honor Roll spot as the New Hyde Park native batted .417 with five hits and one RBI. The senior extended her hitting streak to 16 games and recorded her team-best-tying seventh multi-hit game of the season against STAC in game one on Saturday afternoon.
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .245 with 166 hits, 52 RBI, 58 runs scored, and have earned 39 walks in 705 at-bats
 
Leading the Way
  • Grimshaw leads the way batting .322 with a team-high 29 hits, a team-high six doubles, one home run and has recorded 12 RBI
    • The senior is on a 16-game hitting and reached-base streak.
  • Sophomore Caroline Pescatore (North Babylon, N.Y.) is batting .314 with 16 hits, one double, four RBI, and nine runs scored.
    • The North Babylon native has tallied three multi-hit games with two three-hit performances. 
  • Junior Dyana Budakowski (Washingtonville, N.Y.) is batting .313 with 25 hits, one double, one triple with three RBI, and a team-high 11 runs scored. 
    • Budakowski has tallied seven multi-hit games on the season. 
  • In the pitching circle, Dilday leads the team with four wins to go with a team-high 59 strikeouts.
    • The Castle Rock native has recorded two nine strikeouts outing with one shutout win. 

Mercy College (Overall Record: 7-23 overall, 2-6 ECC)

Mercy enters the week with an overall record of 7-23 and 2-6 in conference play. They are coming off an ECC DH split against the College of Staten Island last Tuesday (Apr. 4) afternoon.
 
The Knights are 5-5 in their last 10 matches but hold a record of 18-12 in Dobbs Ferry since the 2000 season. 
 
As a team, the Mavericks are batting .263 with 204 hits, 112 runs scored, 40 doubles, five triples, 12 home runs, 91 RBI, and 51 earned walks. 
 
Cayla Crawford leads the team batting .431 with 31 hits, 21 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 12 RBI. While Sydney Johnston leads the Mavericks with a team-high 21 RBI with a batting average of .270 with 20 hits, seven doubles, two home runs, and eight runs scored. 
 
Alexi Benson and Marina Provencio lead the team with six combined wins in the circle. 
 

D'Youville University (Overall Record: 10-20, 4-6 ECC)

D'Youville enters the week with an overall record of 10-20 and 4-6 in ECC play. The Saints will match up against Mercyhurst on Wednesday (Apr. 12), and CSI (Apr. 14) before facing the Knights on Sunday (Apr. 16) afternoon. 
 
The Knights are looking are their first win in Buffalo having dropped the first four contests over the last two seasons. 
 
As a team, the Saints are batting .265 with 223 hits, 108 RBI, 128 runs scored, and 82 walks in 843 at-bats.
 
Hannah Bardeen leads the batting .366 with 30 hits, eight doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 25 runs scored, and 26 RBI, while Gianna Adamo leads the team with a batting average of .327 with 33 hits, four doubles, 18 runs scored, and six RBI.
 
Sarah Parzych leads the team with five wins in the circle.

Next Pitch: Head coach Amy Delmore and the Knights stay on the road as they travel to Staten Island on Tuesday (Apr. 18) afternoon as they conclude their series against the Dolphins of College of Staten Island. First pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
