Softball Opens Eight-Game Homestand against D’Youville, Bridgeport

FLUSHING, N.Y.  – The Queens College softball team opens an eight-game homestand beginning with a weekend series against D'Youville University Saints and University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in East Coast Conference action.

Scouting the Knights 
Queens (0-12 overall, 0-2 ECC) is still in search of their first win of the season and are coming off a tough doubleheader loss to the Pace University Setters Thursday afternoon. 
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .217, .558 OPS, and .283 slugging % with 63 hits and 21 runs scored. 
 
Senior Ann Grimshaw (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) leads the offense batting .313 with 10 hits, three doubles, and four RBIs on the season. On Monday (Mar. 21) Grimshaw was named to the ECC honor roll sheet. 
 
While junior Cyarra Alvardo (Coral Springs, Fla.) is batting .308 with 12 hits, four doubles, and four RBIs. Last week Alvarado finished the week batting .538, .538 OBP, and a whopping .768 slugging % with seven hits including three doubles. The junior tallied 7 hits including three doubles and three RBIs. In the ECC opening series, Alvarado went 5-7 with three doubles as she kept the Knights in pace with Molloy. She would end the week extending her hit streak to six games at Franklin Pierce as she found a spot on the East Coast Conference honor roll. 
 
Freshman Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.)  is starting to find her stride as she is batting a rookie high .304 with seven hits, a triple, two RBIs, and is 6-6 on stolen bases attempts. 

D'Youville University Series History
The Knights are 1-3 against the Saints but are riding a one-game win streak as they split the home conference doubleheader in Flushing last spring. 
 
Scouting the D'Youville
D'Youville (11-3 overall, 3-1 ECC) is riding a two-game win streak having swept College of Staten Island earlier this week. They are 3-1 in ECC play as the Saints opened conference play by earning a split against Bridgeport. 
 
As a team, the Saints are batting .323 with .385 OBP, .444 slugging %, and have tallied 80 runs on 118 hits.  
 
The offense is led by Maddy Pepke batting a team-high .560 with 28 hits and six RBIs. while Hannah Bardeen is batting .538 with 14 hits and leads the team in RBIs with 13 on the season. 
 
University of Bridgeport Series History
The Knights are 39-25 in 64 overall meetings since the 2001 season, but the Purple Knights have won the last 10 games against the Knights. At home, Queens holds a 24-9 advantage, but they will be looking for their win since the 2018 season when they swept the Purple Knights 8-0 in game one and held on for a 6-5 game two victory. 
 
Scouting Bridgeport
Bridgeport (16-11 overall, 4-4 ECC) enters Flushing on a two-game win streak having swept Mercy College on the road including a 16-13 game two slugfest.  
 
As a team, the Purple Knights are batting .295 with .375 OBP and .419 slugging % with 218 hits and 133 runs scored. 
 
The offense is led by Kiana Robinson batting a team-high .433 with 13 hits, two doubles, two home runs, and six RBIs. While Kiara Ramon is batting .405 with 32 hits and leads the offense with 26 RBIs.
 
Next Series
 
The Knights return to non-conference play as they welcome the Caldwell University Cougars to Flushing on Thursday (Apr. 7) afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
