STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2020) -
Nyakuome Thichiot posted a top-15 performance in the women's triple jump as the Queens College track and field teams competed against stiff competition and boasted some successful results at the UAlbany Winter Classic on Friday (Feb. 7) at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex on Staten Island.
With a leap of 11.33 meters, Thichiot placed twelfth overall in the competition as she jumped against Division I competitors from LIU, Monmouth and Delaware as well as Canada's McGill University.
Pavan Bhat performed just as well in the men's triple jump, winning his heat and taking a top-10 finish (seventh, 13.79m) as he placed third among Division II athletes behind two competitors from fellow ECC school Georgian Court.
Andrew Saulpaugh accumulated a thirteenth-place finish in the men's weight throw (15.25m) to round out the performances in the field events for the Knights. On the track,
Hakeem Alexander-Blake won his heat of the 500-meter dash and placed inside the top-20 with a sixteenth-place time of 1:06.91.
Queens will next compete in the prestigious Millrose Games on Saturday (Feb. 8) as the men's distance medley relay qualified for the elite track event at the Armory in Manhattan.
