STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Feb. 23, 2020) -
Pavan Bhat claimed victory for the Queens College men's track and field team in the triple jump as the Knights concluded the indoor season on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex for the ECC Championship meet.
The Knights finished in fourth place on the men's side and ninth-place on the women's side of the meet. Georgian Court swept both competitions for the second consecutive season
Bhat was the top performer in the men's competition for the Knights, finishing inside the top-three in all of his events on the evening. The sophomore won the triple jump with a leap of 14.24 meters, just beating Georgian Court's Jeshurun Devero (14.13m) for the conference crown and setting a new ECC record for the championship meet. Bhat was also second in the high jump (1.95m) and third in the long jump (6.84m) to earn some crucial points for the Knights on the day. Meanwhile,
Ooreofe Oluwadara was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.59 meters.
Jahmel Maynor-Mendez was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.30 seconds, just behind Josh Mallard of St. Thomas Aquinas (50.07s) with
Jeremy Herbert (52.38s) in seventh place. Meanwhile,
Myles Jackson also sported a second-place finish in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:05.66 as teammate
Hakeem Alexander-Blake ran a ninth-best time of 1:09.97. The Knights also performed well in other field events with
Daniel Diaz posting a fifth-best shot put mark of 13.79 meters and a seventh-place weight throw of 12.82m. In the latter competition,
Andrew Saulpaugh finished as the runner-up with a weight throw mark of 15.31 meters.
In the women's competition,
Nyakuome Thichiot posted a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.59 meters with
Bianca Hiltz ending up in seventh place (10.94m). The two also finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the long jump event. Meanwhile,
Crystal Jia posted the best women's track result for the Knights with a fifth-place run in the 1000-meter run (3:18.83) and
Alexis Hall ran the seventh-fastest mile with a time of 5:54.68.
