Men's Cross Country Battles Stiff Competition at Meet of Champions Friday

BRONX, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2019) - Facing a grueling eight-kilometer course and high-level Division I regional opponents, the Queens College men's cross country team competed at the Iona College-Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions on Friday (Sept. 20) at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Knights finished third among Division II schools in the meet and 15th overall in the 18-team competition.

Host Iona College won the meet with UNC Charlotte and Temple rounding out the top-three on the day.

Knights That Shined
  • Pablo Hernandez was the top finisher for the Knights, placing in 81st overall with a time of 28:51.4, pacing just ahead of several Division I runners from Binghamton and Loyola (Md.).
  • Just a few strides behind Hernandez was Clivensky Etienne, who clocked a 29:09.8 run over the eight-kilometer stretch.
  • Two other Knights crossed the finish line inside the top-100 scoring competitors as Johan Servones posted a 93rd-place time of 29:49.3 and Steven Cuascut finished the race with the 98th-fastest time (31:09.1).

Up Next on the Docket

Queens will have a week off before the Knights race again, this time crossing over into New Jersey to compete on Oct. 5 at the Highlander XC Challenge at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J.
