Volleyball Falls On The Road In Four Sets

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Queens College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match in four sets to Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon on the road.  Set scores were 25-27, 25-17, 25-23, 25-19.

Sophomore Nicoletta DiCocco continued her early season strong play, tallying 13 kills with a .297 hitting percentage.  Freshman Cassidy Stewart was also in double figures, registering 11 kills.  Junior Kristen Moore has 41 assists from her setter position, while Ragina Anthony had 19 digs and three aces.  The Knights posted 11 service aces in the contest, one shy of matching a season best.

In the opening set, the Knights controlled the early action taking a 10-5 lead on an ace by freshman Lauren Kehoe.  Trailing 14-8, the Hawks countered with a 12-6 surge, evening the contest at 20.  Queens jumped ahead and within set point, 24-22, before Saint Anselm evened the score.  From there, the Knights ended the stanza with three of four points, taking the set on a kill by DiCocco.

The Hawks controlled the second set from the outset, grabbing a 15-5 lead.  Four points in a row by Queens narrowed the deficit to six points.  After a back and forth, Saint Anselm jumped ahead 22-15 and closed the set on an ace by Danielle Isbell.

In the third set, the Hawks led 5-1 early.  QC countered with a 6-2 run, evening the score at seven and later took a 12-11 lead.  The teams traded points, before a 3-1 run by Queens gave the Knights a 23-21 lead.  With their backs against the wall, the Hawks scored the set's final four points and took the set by two points.

With the fourth set even at five, Saint Anselm scored five of the next six points, taking a 10-6 lead.  The home Hawks would never trail or be tied the rest of the contest.  Saint Anselm led by as much as seven in the set and closed the match on a kill by Sarah Lowery and a QC attack error.

Amanda Bickford led four Saint Anselm players in double figures with 12 kills.  CC Chrisom had 22 digs, and Jewel Hays posted a game-high 45 assists.
