Baseball Drops Two To Dowling

SHIRLEY, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team dropped both ends of an East Coast Conference double header to Dowling Tuesday afternoon.  The Knights fell in game one 9-1, before dropping game two 9-5.

In the opener, junior Jorge Ruiz had two hits for the Knights.  Sophomore Thomas Parish drove in the lone QC run with a single to right field in the bottom of the first.  Dowling's Michael Rizzitello had two runs batted in, while Tyler Piccolo had two hits and drove in two runs.

After the Knights' run in the first inning, Dowling starter Cody McPartland settled down, going the distance, allowing six hits and striking out 11.  QC starter Calvin Luk took the loss, allowing three runs in 5.0 innings.

In game two, the Golden Lion chipped away at a 5-0 deficit and put the game away with four runs in the seventh.  The Knights posted five runs in the third inning, on four hits and two Dowling errors.  Parish delivered a two-run single up the middle, scoring freshman Andrew Navarez and Karl Klesin.  A single by Ruiz, then scored junior Kevin Kolesar.  Junior Joseph Pidoto plated Parish and Ruiz with the final runs of the inning.

Dowling went right back with three runs in the fourth, as Bobby Morse scored an unearned run and Chris Russo and Tim Going delivered RBI singles.  Runs in the fifth and sixth innings evened the game at five, before Dowling strung together four hits and scored four runs.  Piccolo registered a two-run single, after an RBI hit by Rizzitello.  Dan Farina then drove in Piccolo with an RBI single.

The Knights are back in action Wednesday afternoon against Caldwell (3:00 pm).
