Klesin, Dawkins Propel QC Baseball Over Dowling

Box Score

SHIRLEY, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team moved to 3-3 in league play with a 5-1 victory over Dowling Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.  Knotted at one, QC broke through with a pair of two-run frames during the seventh and eighth innings.

Sophomore Karl Klesin (Glendale, N.Y.) and senior Matt Dawkins (Englewood, N.J.) were the offensive catalysts for the Knights.  Klesin picked up two hits, and drove in three runs while Dawkins also had two knocks, drove in QC's other two runs and scored three times.

On the mound, junior Joseph Broderick (West Islip, N.Y.) pitched deep into the contest for his second straight start.  Broderick went 7.2 innings, allowing nine hits and one run, while striking out three.  Junior Kyle Bell (Brockport, N.Y.) retired the final four batters to claim his second save of the year.

Queens scored the game's first run in the fifth inning, when Dawkins came in on an infield single by Klesin.  In the bottom of the inning, Dowling evened the contest on a bunt single by R.J. Going, scoring Tim Going.

Klesin broke the tie in the seventh inning, as his double to left field scored freshman Andrew Navarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Dawkins with the team's second and third runs.  Dawkins put the game out of reach in the eighth with a home run to right, his first of the season.

Mike Jeannetti was credited with the loss in relief for the Golden Lions.  The two teams will complete their series Monday afternoon at 12:00 pm with a double header at Hennekens Stadium.
