Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team suffered a 12-1 setback to Merrimack Friday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Knights were held to just four hits in the game, with a quartet of players collecting knocks. Junior Jorge Ruiz (Shirley, N.Y.) drove in the lone run for Queens, with a single to left field.
The Knights found themselves in an early hole, as the Warriors scored twice in the top of the first inning. Heading to the bottom of the third inning, Merrimack had jumped out to an 8-0 lead. QC pushed its lone run of the game across in the third, as Ruiz plated sophomore Matthew Walsh (Whitestone, N.Y.).
Redshirt junior John Dondero (East Islip, N.Y.) took the loss for the Knights, allowing seven runs, six earned, in 2.1 innings. Merrimack's Riley Sorensen earned the win, pitching three scoreless frames in relief.
Sean O'Neill led the Warriors with five hits and drove in three runs, while Matt Nicholson had four hits and two runs batted in. Each connected on a home run, as did Bobby Losanno.
The Knights and Warriors conclude their weekend set with a double header Saturday, beginning at 12:00 pm.
