Syracuse, N.Y. - The Queens College women's tennis team picked up from where it left off a season ago, opening its 2014 fall season with an 8-1 win over Le Moyne in Syracuse, New York on Thursday. The Knights swept the doubles flights and lost just one match in singles competition.
The doubles play saw Queens win all three matches. Four newcomers debuted in the doubles round as Cami Abdallah and Angelika Sobiecka won at first doubles, 8-4. The team of Yevgenia (Jenna) Plevako and Andrea Samson, the lone returners in doubles, won their matchup, 8-0. The final doubles match saw Sumeera Kamil and Molly Fanelli earn a point with an 8-2 triumph.
In singles play, QC was equally dominant, as all the victories came in straight sets. Plevako won her match love and two, while Kamil won 6-2, 6-3. Playing third singles was Sobiecka and she won 6-0, 6-1. Samson won her match, 6-1, 6-1. The final QC point came from Abdallah, who was triumphant 6-0, 6-1. Sarah O'Leary made her debut for Queens as well. The Whitestone, New York, native took a game in her match.
The Queens College women's tennis team continues its upstate roadtrip on Friday, September 12. They face Roberts Wesleyan University at 3:00 PM.
