No. 26 Queens Sweeps No. 30 Wilmington 7-0 on the Road

Box Score WILMIINGTON, DEL. – Opening the week on the road, the No. 26 Queens College women's tennis team faced off against fellow nationally ranked No. 30 Wilmington University Monday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
 
The Knights secured the doubles point by winning two of three matches before sweeping all six singles courts to earn a dominant 7-0 victory. Sophomore Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) clinched the match at No. 5 singles.
 
With the win, Queens improves to 11-3 overall on the season.

Doubles Play

At No. 1 doubles, the nationally ranked No. 23 duo of senior Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and freshman Ela Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) opened the afternoon with a strong 6-1 victory over Ming Fu Chen and Molly Carlberg.
 
Wilmington answered at No. 2 doubles as the Queens tandem of juniors Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) fell 2-6 to Gloria Barcaro and Liza Sylka.
 
Queens secured the doubles point at No. 3, where senior Lydia Zafeiri (Athens, Greece) and sophomore Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) defeated Siana MacDonald and Maria Ines Oliveira, 6-3.

Singles Play

Leading 1-0, Goubet quickly extended the advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 38 Siana MacDonald at No. 2 singles.
 
No. 31 Bizouerne followed with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Chen at No. 3 singles to give Queens a 3-0 lead.
 
Genestay clinched the match at No. 5 singles, defeating Sylka 6-2, 6-2.
 
Vasic pushed the lead to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Carlberg at No. 4 singles, before senior Regina Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Barcaro at No. 6 singles.
 
At the top spot, No. 74 Bertran dropped the opening set to Elena Camacho but responded with a 7-5 second-set win to force a match tiebreak. Bertran dominated the breaker 10-2 to complete the 7-0 sweep for the Knights.

Next Match:

Queens returns home on Friday, April 3, to host No. 25 Thomas Jefferson University in non-conference action. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
